M46 synchronizers 200 1984

Another post on behalf of my dad who can't figure out this whole computer thing.

In his '84 240 M46 250K, the 1-2 gear synchro is shot (has been since 180K) and now the 2-3 is starting to go also. As proficient as he has become at double-clutching, he'd like to get this transmission back to like-new condition. He has the green-book and has no qualms about replacing the synchros DIY, but is concerned about the quality of after-market synchros. He said the dealership price quote was approx $170 and on the internet they are approx $20.

Looking for advice from anyone else who has DIY replaced synchronizers, where they got the parts from, and how pleased they are with the result.

Thanks!
