car shakes when I brake etc 200 1987

I had new front brakes put in in July last year. I also bought four new tires and had the wheels agligned about a month later. About two months ago I noticed that the car shakes when I apply the brakes, especially on the freeway. My mechanic says I need new rotors. However, I noticed that last time my car was serviced they suggested that the left tie rod end was worn. Could this be what is causing the shake? The rotors were resurfaced 2 1/2 years ago. I have noticed in various posts here, that when the rotors are warped something is causing it. I asked my mechanic and he said they just wear out. Any comments? Also what is this that Volvo's should only have real Volvo parts in the exhaust system?
