Steering problem coming from drivers side 200 1989

Unfortunately I had a run in with a deer while driving in a local canyon- because these cars are such tanks, I am alive and my car is still running. However, since then there has been a problem with my steering. It seems that any time I want to turn (left or right) my wheel seems to shimmy and this causes the steering wheel to vibrate. There is also a baratone-like sound coming from the car when I make turns. To be honest, I am scared to take this to a mechanic and have to give my first born to them...I am just a student but love this car!!! Any opinions would be most appreciated.
