Starts well, Idles way too high 200 1984

Just picked up a ' 84 245 with a B23f. Had a condition were it would only start on the second try. I fixed that somehow, probably from cleaning a LOT of electrical connections. I also replaced the throttle switch, from a '86 240. Was that a bad move? Are they not interchangable? The engine idles at around 1200 rpm, and I know the throttle switch clicks closed. I cleaned the throttle body completely. My next thought is the idle air control valve to blame. How can I find out if its bad? What years of interchangability are there for that idle valve?
