Can an 84 tailight be modified to be used in an 87 200

I just did this myself with the left (driver's side) I transferred the circuit sheet. Pull it off carefully and at the harness plug, there is double stick tape to peel gently.
Then on the right side you will need the circuit sheet and you have to transfer the one white socket, to get third brake light function. TYhe white bulb socket does not fit perfectly in the locking slots of the light housing but with a little care and firm guidance, it will work. I have all functions including rear fogs, reverse lights, third brake light and so forth, working properly. It can be done.

One more note, if you ever have to move wires around for some reason in the tail light harness plug, the harness plug at the tail light does easily come apart and all the terminals can be moved when you unsnap the retaining piece on the plug. I had to do that because the PO inexplicably had the reverse light hot lead in another slot. Anyway, it was easy to trace ans restore.
