Fuel Problem 900 1991

This is odd.Very odd. For the first time for a long time i backed up my drive way, which is like a 45 deg ramp, So the front of the car is lower than the back. The fuel gauge which was reading nearly full droped to zero and the light came on. The main fuel pump started to wine quite loudly and the engine started to splutter. It then stalled and would not start. Like it was flooded. took the brake off and rolled down the ramp. On the level the fuel gauge showed nearly full and the car started as normal. Turned the car around and drove up the drive so front was higher than back and no problem. So I turned the car around again and backed up the drive. Problem started again.

Where should I look to solve this one???
