Question about spark plug gapping 200

Hi all!

I first want to thank all those who gave me spark plug reccomendations and gapping advice. I went to Pep Boys and got four Bosch Platinum plugs for my 1982 245. Volvo says the plugs should have a 0.7 - 0.8mm gapping. The parts guy told me that I don't have to gap them because they're already gapped to manufacturer specs. Can someone confirm this statement? I installed them without gapping them. What are some signs of incorrect gapping? The car runs fine, but I don't really notice any significant change, except that the engine makes puttering sounds when warming up and idling. I recently had the timing and idle adjusted, so that may explain the put-put sound. Any other opinions?
