Timing problems (update) 200 1989

Update to the post below:

http://www.brickboard.com/RWD/index.htm?id=448974

I decided to put the car in gear today and see how it would hold idle.

Idling was fine but giving the car some throttle caused a problem. It would knock continually, it sounded like every cylinder was knocking. As if the timing was way off.

I checked the timing belt and it checked out fine. The link to the post above will show that I replaced just about half of all EFI and EI components that could be replaced.

I'll check for vacum leaks tomorrow but can a vacum leak cause this sort of pronounced knocking?
Perhaps the flywheel is indeed faulty?
Previously I removed the crank sensor and put my finger in there and slowly turned the engine with a rachet connected to the harmonic balancer. I couldnt detect if anything was wrong all the holes felt like they were there. But it seemed as if a few holes were closed off. I assume thats normal because I couldnt imagine the holes being intentionally closed off for some reason. But it wouldnt surprise me if thats not the case.
In regards to the flywheel I think the only thing I can really do is remove the transmission (its an automatic). That sounds like a weekend.
I dont think I should bother replacing the EZK 116 because I would either have or not have ignition if it was faulty.
But the odd thing about all of this is that the plugs are blackened so it seems the fuel is getting there just the timing is significantly off.

Very weird.

Thanks all for your continued help,
Steve
