I've never bothered to use a special tool to immobilize the crank pulley, I've just left the car in gear and heaved away with a breaker-bar.

If you're doing the crank-seal and "balance" shaft seal, get the gasket for the front plate that these are both mounted in, as it makes things much easier if you have this on hand if/when those seals fail to come out in one piece. Much easier to just remove the plate, and push them out from the backside.

Good luck! It's not that hard, just work slowly and deliberately. :)
