Plastic Caps on Injectors?

I have a '93 945 B230 and I'm replacing the injector seals. The kit I got has plastic caps that fit on the tip of the injector,,,,but, the injectors I'm taking out of the car don't have these. Should my car have these caps, and what role do they play? By the way, the car is not running right and I thought that perhaps someone had forgotten to put these on???
