240 Dash light/Temp gauge 200 1989

Hey all,

I've got two problems with my dash that may be related. The first and most important, to me is that my temp gauge is wacky. It's up, it's down, it's scaring hell out of me. I have replaced my thermostat, flushed my radiator, etc. . . so I think it's either the temp sender or the compensation board I've been hearing so much about lately. I'm leaning that way because the dash light on that side of the panel started fading in and out and finally went out all together last friday. I'm not sure though, because the gas gauge is working, clock works, speedo etc. . . and the temp would climb into the red after driving with the AC on (at stoplights and in traffic) but go down when I did the heater thing. What else could cause this? I'm a little nervous about pulling apart my dash, but if I have to I will.

Thanks in advance for any help.
