how to lower stuck rear seat back in 245? 200 1987

I have a 1987 245. The back seat release mechanism won't release on the drivers side and so the seat back is stuck in the upright position. I have lubed it, cussed it, and applied brute force to no avail. Any ideas?

I am contemplating sawing out the catch and replacing the rear seat and catch from a junkyard. If so I would like to replace it with a later year model so I will have the headrests. Does anyone know if this will present a problem with fit or installation?

Any and all suggestions will be welcomed and appreciated.

Thanks,
