740 Turbo-Fast Idle (3500) RPM's

1986 740 Intercooler Turbo Wagon. Just replaced the turbo-charger. It was still blowing smoke like crazy. Found that when the last turbo died it shot oil into the inter cooler. There was no drain, but only took two screws to lift it out after disconnecting the hoses. Turned it over and the oil gushed out. (This is the first time) Wiped everything out, put it back together. No smoke after driving several miles and killing every mosquito in the neighborhood and being stopped by the Police who thought my car was on fire. Well, anyway, I was very proud, then I let the wife drive it. It's her car anyway. Next thing I know...she barrels into the drive blowing smoke everywhere. Lift the hood and there is oil blown everywhere. Now...either we left the dip stick half way out or there was some kind of pressure build up that blew it out. I found that the hose (about 3/4") that runs from the manifold to the side of the intake hose leading to the turbo charger was loose. A previous shade tree mechanic had rigged a hose that I found was very loose fitting. To prevent that from happening again I replaced it. Made more minor repairs to hoses..now everything is tight and sealed. Oh! I had to drain the inter-cooler again because apparently what ever caused the hoses coming loose filled the intercooler again. Now it is all back together with a new problem. The engine over idles up to 3200-3500 RPM, but the smoke seems to be gone. How do I adjust the idle. The Haynes book makes it look complicated. I found what I take to be an Idle adjustment screw (black plastic) about 3/4" diameter and a possible air control valve at the end of the manifold a little low on the left near the hose that runs to the inter-cooler. Any help and suggesting (other than taking it to a dealer) would be appreciated. George
