Weird airflow meter-type problems, HELP! 700 1988

Brian,

If the problem was constant, I would suspect an air leak on the intake side or a bad fuel pressure regulator. Since the problem comes and goes intermittently, the idle air control valve could be sticking. Next time it's running poorly, whack the IAC with a stick. If the idle smooths out, you've got it. The 700/900 FAQs explain how to clean the valve side as well as how to disassemble the motor and clean the commutator. Look under "Engine Tune and Performance; Symptoms". Let us know what the final fix is.

Regards,
Bruce
