Sudden shutdown anytime, restarts fine 1983 245GL w/AW71 200 1983

Car is running great since fixing the MASSIVE intake manifold leak! Except for...

Random immediate shutdown while driving at any speed. Whole process is fairly quick 4-5 seconds. Sometimes engine will restart on it's own but usually I just put it in neutral while coasting at 50mph and fire it right up. It always starts again just fine and off I go, sometimes for 20 miles, sometimes for 100 feet.

I've read the electrical problem descriptions on the FAQ pages - some descriptions are very close. If I turn the ignition off while driving, the tach drops immediately and the red "charge" light comes on. With this problem the engine goes silent, tach does NOT peg to zero until (gradual dim fluttering to full brightness) all warning lights have come on. Restart at 50mph (or 10mph)and off I go!
