780 fouled sparkplugs 700

I have a 1989 780 with the b230ft engine. Every time I take the spark plugs out, they are gas fouled. I mean dark soot deposits. I recently had a problem where the wire to the engine temp sensor disconnected under the harness and the car ran really rich..but the third mechanic found that problem. So what can be the causes of running rich..would I adjust the AMM and make it leaner or can the oxygen sensor make that difference...any ideas..When I pull the spark plugs off and clean them with sandpaper..it runs fine till they get fouled again..even though I dont see any black smoke until they are foulded out of the exhaust..thanks...Leo
