Bad handling 1800 1964

What shocks? What do you mean by "going through the linkages"? Was the car sitting on the ground or was the front jacked up?

The 1800 will handle fine, but old, sagging springs and a worn out steering box are a bad starting place. Lower springs, sway bars and upgraded shocks will make a world of difference. Get a good allignment, not something from quickie-allign or whatever. Make sure the steering box is adjusted right. Try 185/65 tires, too, if you have not already. Also, make sure the front crossmember is OK. If the suspension mounting points break loose, your car will handle terribly and will pull to the broken side when braking. I had this happen to my 1800 last summer.
