Rear Main Seal replacement and Flywheel Alignment. 200 1982

I am performing a clutch job on my girlfriends 82 242. Unfortunately I only have a Hanes manual and the search functions of this web site do not work properly.

I removed the flywheel and then I read the Hanes manual. It said to mark the position of the flywheel and crank, and that there was a special alignment between the engine and flywheel. I of course forgot to mark the flywheel and crankshaft.

How important is it to get this alignment right?? How can I get it aligned correctly??

Finally, I am going to replace the rear main seal. Can I do this without removing the housing?? How can I get the new seal on? I don't have a socket huge enought to act like a drift.

Thanks,
Mairo m.
