Trans out 200 1988

My transmition on my '88 245 has finally gone out after about 200 thousand miles. The two top volvo mechanics in the area have come in with worse case senarios estimates for rebuilt trans at $1600 and $2200. I have used both shops in the past and I am wondering what could possibly make the the difference of a $600 margine. What questions should I ask the mechanic. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks Kimo
