I was told the same thing, a few years back, by a reputable Volvo shop, although Bosch platinum are (like any make) available in a range from 'hot' to 'cool'.

I do know that after running platinum plugs in my '79 242 for about 15,000 miles the #1 exhaust valve became stuck. Engine had over 200,000 on it so it was probably inevitable but I can't help but think the platinums hastened this malfunction.
