I'm about to take the wagon over 200,000 this weekend, had a few quick questions...
I posted a few days ago about a "scraping noise", and tried a few of the recommended fixes. The engine mounts are fine, the fan isn't scraping the housing. The sound is metallic, and seems to happen when the engine is shifting gears or working hard to accelerate. (auto tranny) I think something is loose and vibrating at a certain frequency, I just need to know what to check and tighten. I've already examined the heat sheilds, vacuum hoses, and misc. bolts under the hood. If there's anything under the car or hidden away inside the compartment that might come loose and rattle, let me know and I'll check it.
I also wanted to know what the exact method is to do a "redline" cleaning, I've read several different things involving two bottles of it, certain intervals between fillings, etc. I'm driving 1000+ miles this weekend and want to do this if possible.
Thanks in advance for the help, thanks to this site I'm already learning how to do basic repairs and maintenance that I never could've imagined trying a year ago. I think I had the most fun installing padding under the stock carpet for soundproofing, I got some strange looks from other kids when they looked over and say my driver's seat in the middle of the parking lot here at school. ... I'm looking forward to the drive, and can't wait to see the numbers roll on my way back from New Hampshire.
