Hey all,
What follows is a re-cap of a problem I'm experiencing with my wagon. The PO, a mechanic, installed the b230 manifold a couple years ago, makes for nice acceleration. I bought the car about 6 months ago, ran fine, I did a few things to it like a new air filter, new oil, tie rod ends. I didn't replace the wires or plugs or cap and rotor...The car has a rebuilt engine in it with a new wiring harness. I've been driving the car and haven't had any problems with it until I went outside one morning, started it up just fine, one crank and I drove off and it was accelerating but bogged down, then for a second or two it would accelerate fine then bog again, when the load gets too much on the engine it bogs down. Under the hood I can manually rev the engine up without any of the mentioned syptoms, smooth as always.
Areas that have been mentioned to me are:
Change plugs, wires, rotor, cap
oxygen sensor
overboost swith (not sure how to test this)
make sure all hoses and IC pipe aren't leaking
fuses/fuel pump relay (cleaned these and greased them, resoldered relay)
coil, at least they're cheap but I don't think that's it
fuel pressure regulator? Mine was replace a couple years ago
fuel filter I havent' changed it yet
fuel pump the car idles and was driving fine...
Catalytic converter, newer exhaust system with new cat installed a couple years ago.
I'm starting to think that perhaps a rat has died in the air intake, I'll let you know on that one, or perhaps a bannana in the exhaust
Well I'm not sure what is making the car drive so crappy, it was driving fine before I parked it. Before I parked it I'd gone through and cleaned all the grounds under the hood, resoldered the fp relay, cleaned all the fuse terminal and greased them. What I haven't done is changed over the wires, cap and rotor, fuel filter. I have changed the air filter and removed the diverter valve.
I've cleaned the tb and the IAC, I've got a high idle too, I think the high idle may be because the po didn't put the b21ft iac motor on....I'm going on a trip so I won't be able to change out the plugs and wires till late next week, what a drag, I'm limping around town, the drivablilty sucks and I don't see anything obvious under the hood, all the IC tubing is connnected, the vacuum tubes are all there and I've even changed some out. I guess things to switch out include the wires, rotor and cap as well as the plugs, oxygen sensor, coil perhaps and then see how it works. Check the boost cut out switch, test it I suppose, anyone know how to do that?
I only have the stumbing/jerky acceleration under load, someone indicated that a load coupled with jerky acceleration could indicate wire/plug problems. Like it's always recommeded, I'll start with the easy stuff. I'm just completeley confused since all that happend was I parked a good running car then I went out the other morning and it was not very drivable. I'll let you know how it turns out.
Thanks for any additonal information or descriptions of similar occurances.
Best Josh
