544 is a lovely car to drive, engine is set further back than other Volvos so the car is more balanced, ie corners better but is less stable, I think the aerodynamics are actually quite good which is why they are unstable in cross winds, a slightly more powerful motor and disc brakes ( both easy mods ) and they are evryday cars, I certainly use mine this way. It is a 50 something old design though, also its no good if you don't like talking to strangers, every time I stop somebody starts talking to me, being LHD in NZ this even happens at the lights where the person in the lane next to me winds down his window etc, I drive around with the door window open all the time and its comfortable, can't do that in my 2000 Nissan, 544 is a hopeless shopping car, boot is OK but access is awful
