Air mass meter adjustment..too lean now.. 700

I have a 1989 780 turbo. I got some good responses to my testing the o2 sensor. But there is a different problem. My car was running to rich so I played with the amm screw setting. Now I am not sure if I have it turned in too far or out to far. One guy told me that counter clockwise would lean it out. The car is driving fine now and the plugs are not fouling but I am not sure where I have it now. So I heard that if the mixture is to lean you can burn a valve or even a hole into a pistion. Will the airmass meter let you go that far with the adjustments and is clockwise to make it richer mixture..thanks in advance
