240 ELECTRICAL GOIN' NUTS

Thanks everyone for advice on starter. But I have a whacky '89 wagon that:
(1) Will not start (2) Dome light comes on weak and then gets strong. (3) Step on the brake and the dome light goes off. (4) Put the turn signals on and the speedo needle jumps with the signals.(sometimes all of this does nothing and appears dead). (5) Step on brake pedal and weak lights and then maybe strong again. (6)Absolutely no horn or headlights.

I talked to a mechanic that has been doing volvo's for 20 years, and he mentioned the wiring harness might be chafed and grounding out near the bottom where it loopes. I thought '88 and above 240's didn't have that problem.

Alot of these strange electrical perplexities happen without the key in the ignition. So I'm praying it is not the "BOSCH" jetronic computer.

There is one thing for sure about this situation, the voltage is fluctuating and shorting out somewhere or a electrical component(whatever it may be)is bad.

Well, off to the volvo dealer,

Thanks again- S C
