164 tachometre installation 140-160 1971

Hi All

Not been here before, but it's great to have found you.

we have a pair of '71 164Es. i'd like to install a tach in one of them as i'm converting it from auto to manual. Being a '71 it has the stylish dash. i want to avoid brutalising the layout by putting some big, intrusive dial on top, or locating it in the central console where, although there is space, it would be inconvenient. Has anyone had any experience or success with alternative type installations? i'm thinking of something like, maybe, a small digital readout that could occupy the space in the instrument binnacle where the soon to be redundant auto gear selection indicators currently reside.

Any comments greatly appreciated.

Regards
