ROugh running 140-160 1969

A followup - I went back to the car after a couple of hours to try again. Still won't start, no firing. I decided to see if the fuel filter was limiting the flow of fuel (ie. clogged). I removed the end of the fuel line from the carbs, at the last point in the fuel line, after the fuel pump and fuel filter, and pointed it in a small cup. I thought, if fuel comes out when I crank it, then all is well with the fuel pump, filter, line, etc. Well not only did fuel squirt out of the line and into the cup when I cranked it over, but the engine fired right up. It ran for a second or two with the fuel in the carbs. I reconnected the fuel line and tried again. It ran beautifully. So now my question(s) would be, what caused that? Was the engine flooded? Did I release some pressure somewhere by removing the line? Is the problem in the carbs? Is this a fix to the problem if it happens again?
I still think it has something to do with the weather, is that possible?

Thanks,
Phil
