240 no crank/no start 200 1987

Did some repair work this weekend and had to disconnect/reconnect some wiring in and around the engine. Now, sometimes it starts, other times it cranks but does not start and now it will not even turn over. I'm sure the battery is OK. I disconnected the negative wire leading to the block this weekend. I noticed today that when I put it back I put the compressor ground between the battery negative and the block. Would this affect the ability to turn the car on? Anybody have any ideas? Thanks in advance.
