I think it is a VERY GOOD idea to replace the old oil with new oil. How was the old orifice valve, any metallic debris attached to it. How clean is the condenser internally? A flush of the system and even of the condenser individually may be called for, depending on whether there is debris attached to the orifice valve or inside the condenser. Once things are clean, put in the quantity and quality of new oil recommended by the manufacturer, likely about 8 ounces of PAG 100. Put in the new evaporator and a new receiver. Of course, use new O-rings all around. The Airsept inline filter would be nice. After the system is sealed, draw a vacuum, 30 inches of mercury for one hour will do nicely. Then, put in R134. I think your car takes about two pounds of R134. You may want to read flushing procedure at www.ackits.com to be used when compressor dies. You will probably need much less because your compressor did not fail and throw debris through the system. The ALLDATA CD for your car ($20) will help, unless of course you have the MUCH better Volvo shop manual. Knowledgeable Bricksters with Volvo shop manuals have no use for the ALLDATA CD, a VERY abridged version of the Volvo manuals. Best regards.
