A few concerns...745T 700 1992

I recently bought this 92' 745T and its great. I do though, have a couple of questions: Since this is my first time to change out the oil in this car since i bought it, I was concerned when the tech guy told me i was almost 2 quarts low on oil. I understand some consumption is normal but 2 quarts? And i don't have any leaks. I changed the oil today at 72,128 (3000 mi from the last and filled it with 10w30) I don't ride the turbo much at all.

I also wanted to know when does the boost usually engauge on other cars? Mine is at about 2300-2500+. If the air filter is old or dustly how much does it effect running condition (turbo or otherwise)? I was also looking at getting one of those K&N filters for the increased breathing. How many people have them and like them?

Last concern is that my power steering seems a bit creaky when i turn the wheels no matter how gently i do it. Not so much in drive but more at a standstill or low speed. Also when i turn the wheel as much as i can (to where it locks) the pump makes a pretty nasty screech and kinda loud.

Thanks for all the help (sorry this is long.)
