Tailgate almost gone 200 1989

I have a 1989 240DL wagon that has a very solid body except for the tailgate around the window is deteriorating rapidly. However with 197K on the car I am not interested in spending a fortune on it. It is a work/tow vehicle for me so appearance is not the most important thing but the back window falling out would not be a good thing. Therefore I am considering just replacing the tailgate. My question is can I replace it with the newer style tailgate that does not have the recessed window and will it all line up, not rattle or leak and if so are there any complications to doing this. Also what sort of price range am I looking at roughly for a rust free replacement if such an animal exists. I have removed the tailgate once to replace the wiring harness so I have no fear of installing it myself.
Thanks in advance for your help.
