Droning... 700 1987

Does the droning lessen or go away when you let off the gas? If so I would say that you have excess backlash between the ring gear and pinion. It can be adjusted but best bet is to install a new rear axle assy.

One other thing, is the car at stock height? Have you modified it>? Are you carrying a heavy load all the time? If so, the pinion angle may be affected which will cause a cyclic drone. You would have to check the factory specs on pinion angle. I believe that the center bearing support can be shimmed to adjust the drive shaft to pinion.

Not much help here I am afraid.
