What kind of ATF to use 200

Hi all!

I'm somewhat confused by what type of ATF I need for my 1982 245. I don't know exactly what kind of tranny I have, but it is an automatic with O/D (though it doesn't work). The manual states it needs Type G, but most stores don't seem to carry it. Pep Boys' computers has Type F as the ATF to use. One store told me to try the dealer. I called a Volvo dealer and the parts/service guy said any Dexron III will do. I called a Volvo independent, and they use Dexron III in their transmission service (I mentioned that my car was a 1982 240). After searching the archives, I'm still confused. In this posting:

Type g fluid is the same as type f here in the U.S. To be sure that that is the right fluid for your car look under the transmission to see if it has a drain plug with "D-II" on it. If it has such a plug then the gearbox has been replaced with an exchange unit which requires the use of Dexron IIE or Dexron III fluid. By the way, if you don,t find a drain plug on your gearbox then it is the original 1983 unit as they weren't equipped with drain plugs (on these you loosen the filler pipe at pan to allow drainage).

This may be a silly question, but where can I find the drain plug--in fact, where is it located? What will it look like? I really need to know, as I feel I need to add some ATF to my tranny. The fluid level falls in between the recommended MIN/MAX zone, but it's more near the MIN side. So, for a 1982 245 automatic with O/D, do I use Type F or Dexron III, or do I try to find Type G? Thanks in advance.
