dream wagon woes.

With my new family(enter Lyra)comes a new car. Beautiful 1972 baby blue 145s wagon. B-20,dual carbs, four on the floor I was in love. Problem is, trannys grinding anytime I let off the clutch, not so much in fourth and I'm missing alot of my third piston(hence no power and plenty of smoke).
I might be able to replace the engine and tranny as a whole and I was wondering what, in anybodys opinion, is the best combo. My criteria for this is reliabilty, lots of e'm around(cost), power to tow, speed(ha,ha) and of couse fun factor. Emmisions need not apply where I live (sorry guys and girls).

I want to keep her rolling
