While mirrors sometimes contribute to excessive wind noise I have helped a few friends quiet their cars and the usual culprit is air getting under poorly attached windshield trim (sounds like a howl or humming noise)- seal with black or clear caulking under the rubber to prevent air from passing under the trim.

The second most common problem was door weather stripping torn or loose, leading to whistling noises - especially with a cross-wind. You might want to check this as well before you commit to changing mirrors.
