The power antenna hasn't worked on my 1986 740 GLE wagon since I've owned it, over a year. Last week I decided to try and see why. I knew the antenna cable was broken and I had already purchased a replacement online. Once I started to check a little closer I could see the antenna motor wasn't working because I couldn't get it to suck down the new antenna cable. I found a used motor and had that sent to me. There are three wires that go to the motor. One looks to be the power wire (yellow) and the other two wires are smaller and fit into one plug. When I plugged in the new motor I heard it work and it sucked down the antenna. I thought "allright!" but that was a little premature. I can't get the antenna to go back up with the radio on or off.
Now my car also has an additional antenna manual switch on the left side of the steering wheel. This doesn't seem to have any affect with the radio on or off and the engine running. I have a Blaupunkt CD player installed and I'm certain it's hooked up correctly with the antenna wire.
I figured the two thin wires going to the motor must be where it gets its raise/lower signal from. I made myself a jumper wire and reversed the connections and the antenna will raise back up so I know the motor is working ok. But when I plug everything back up as normal it won't go up or down. Any ideas anyone?
