Ted -- What I've done is obtain from a pick-n-pull the power steering pump mounting assembly from a non-a.c.-equipped 240. I've done this on my three 240s. Generally $5 or so. They were not uncommon on late 70's, early 80's 240s. If you go this route, make sure you get *all* the hardware (a casting which mounts on the block and several steel stamping straps), including the bolts. The bolts are different lengths than the ones which are used with the mounting assembly for the a.c.-equipped setup, and they mount at different places on the pump body. I did one of my 240s almost right away after grabbing the stuff, but I got lazy and didn't do the other until a year later when its a.c. compressor's bearings crapped out. I couldn't noodle out how to do the setup, so I had to use the first one as a model. So...if you aren't going to do the setup right away, draw a sketch or take pictures. Also -- now would be a good time to replace the bushings so you get a nice tight vibration-free setup. The belt length is different as well. I can't remember the size off the top of my head, but I can look when I get home from work if that'd be useful to you.
With your '85 -- do you have the "two-piece" power steering pump, the one with the separate fluid reservoir? My '87 had that setup, and when I pulled the a.c. on that car, I replaced the entire pump system with the older setup which has the integral reservoir. So I grabbed the brackets, bolts, pump, and hoses intact and swapped them over. Now I've got that metal bracket that the reservoir used to mount on for mounting the IPD waterproof 25 amp. fuse -- away from the battery vapors.
One thing that you'll really appreciate once you get this new pump setup is the elbow room that's now available. You can almost climb down in there to work on things.
