Transmission shift point 700 1988

The shift point from 2nd to 3rd gear on my 88 740 with AW 71 transmission now occurs at about 40mph. The shift point has been slowly moving up over the past year or so and, as that has happened, the shift has become more abrupt. No slipping between gears. The car has about 220K miles, original transmission, serviced regularly. The info on Swedish Bricks suggests this is just wear over lots of miles and, as long as the abrupt shift isnt annoying, the likelihood is the transmission will just keep going.

Question is, should I be concerned? Is it time for a transplant. I would appreciate other's experience and insight. thanks
