Room for Distributor on B234F engine. 700

I know there is not much room behind both the B230F and the B234F engine with the distributor mounted on the back of the cylinder head, but this is ridiculus!

My 1990 740 with the 16 valve engine has absolutely NO ROOM behind it. It took about an hour to get it on the first time and the second time I installed it on camshaft before installing the camshaft.

Is there any way to get some more room back there? The distributor is touching the firewall and this cannot be good!

This car has an auto tranny, I know if I disconnect the driveshaft I can lower the engine, (so distributor moves toward firewall) but is there some point to shim up so that it moves away?
