Why came connectors off? 900 1995

Morbid story:

Wife´s 945 turbo (low pressure type, but what the heck) wouldn´t start. For peace´s sake I have declined servicing it, so it had been to Volvo shop couple of mo ago. Anyways, I dig out my Hayne´s and start reading error codes. Turns out it says something like "xxx=no contact with idle position switch, or idle switch defunct". So I look around, and BOTH the connector to the idle position switch AND the connector to the idle motor have come off. Was still possible to start car with half throttle, but it wouldn´t idle. I put the connectors back in place. Everything works fine, still does 3 weeks later. I tell wife we just saved 3-500 bucks-she wouldn´t believe me. But she attests to that my phony manuals might be worth something.

Now to my question. Why the mehbvvnrälqweli would these connectors come off? And at "the same" time (exact timing I don´t know, of course). Was there any reason to disconnect them at the last service at shop (I think it included timing belt change, but nothing else special) and was sloppy reinstall the reason? Or anything preventative to do here?
