In my quest to fix my sick 1982 245 (B21F), I've decided to tackle the fuel filter. I believe I still have the original; it's a Bosch (made in Spain) part. After work I thought I'd change it before the sun goes down. But there was a piece of paper that came with the new filter, which warned that I need to lower the fuel pressure and/or let a trained mechanic change it for me. I thought it wise to consult the Volvo gods first before doing this filter change. The job looks simple, but I may need some direction and advice. Actually, the key question is this a job I can do myself or is it too hazardous? I don't even know how to lower the fuel pressure level.
On a similar note, I read the replies about my car not firing up. I will check the AMM and the vacuum hose near it (it's dark outside now). Someone mentioned backfire and blowing a vacuum hose. I've noticed on some cranks, the engine seems to make a clunk sound, which hurts me just as much as it may be hurting the engine. The sound seems to be coming from the driver side, by the brake fluid resevoir--that area. And this morning, I smelled burnt plastic in that area as well after cranking the engine and hearing a clunk. Did I blow someting? It was too dark for me to see any smoke (I'm sure there was some), and I was running late for work. Suppose it is the AMM, is it expensive to replace/repair? BTW, I still haven't had a chance to see how it looks like. Oh, can anyone explain the clunk I hear sometimes when I crank the car? Thanks so much! I love you guys!
