Customized, larger than normal door speakers, anyone do it here? 700

I don't like the sound from my current stock sized Rockford Fosgate 5 1/4" door speakers and being 8 yrs old now (the speakers only that is) and getting problematic, I'm in need of newer, better door speakers for my 745.
Has anyone here modified their door panels for 6 1/2" round door speakers which have better specs and power handling in general? I'm tempted to try it but it looks like I'll need to do some customizing to do that with both the panel and sheet metal behind it to accomodate a speaker that large.
If anyone's done it, any good tips?
