wagon antenna mast replacement is frustrating! 700 1990

Hi all, I am replacing the power antenna mast in a 740 wagon, and I can't get the mast out of the holder thing. I think it is bent, if I pull it, the fattest tube (the last one) only comes out about 4 inches, and then it gets stuck.

I have done this job twice on sedans, and didn't have this much problem. On the sedans I was able to remove the sleeve that retains the mast.

Any tips from those who have been there? I think that maybe the brass end of the mast is caught inside, since the mast is bent. I can't seem to disassemble the holder, is it even possible to?

Thanks for any help!
Greg
