Death Rattle 900

Lately I've been noticing an extremely loud rattle sound coming from the front end. I drive a '94 940 and have few problems with it until now. This rattle sound starts when I start the car. and then dies off, but as soon as you start to accelerate wile driving the rattle is there again. Sounded like a shield was loose somewhere but that has been ruled out. If you hit the gas hard you can't hear the rattle until the rpms drop offand then it'll fade out after a couple minutes or until your rpms stable out. The other time you hear it is when you are accelerating slower and the noise starts at 200 rpm. After some extended time of driving the noise seems to fade out. Any ideas would be extremly welcome as my mechanics can't figure out what it is.
