odometer questions 200

I recently bought an 87 245 and have read on the boards that a 245 uses a different (electric) odometer than a sedan.. I got one from a junkyard out of a sedan and i tear mine apart and it is evident that the one side with a black lever like thing and a single gear that hits the pin and white tip has been disconnected from my current one so that it will mount correctly.

Well I did the same to the one from the junkyard and it worked.... what does that one half with the circuit and gear do? I can't determine any functionality missing even though it was disconnected (wire cut also) in mine and I did the same and the junkyard one works good as new as well. ???? I am sure it served some purpose!!!!

Also it was the little brown 25 tooth gear that was broke (i for sure broke it when I hit the trip while moving! :()

does anyone have a current link/phone number of somewhere I could purchase this gear from? I don't know of any odometer shops locally and would like to have some spare gears! Thanks a million!

Jamie
