What do you solder on the 1 by 1 by 2 relay that deals with the over drive. 700 1986

I have a 1986 Volvo 740 GLE. My car will not kick into overdrive. I was told to solder the relay and that might fix it. But I don't know what I am supposed to solder. On the overdirve it has a little thing that makes a connection. does anyone know whether this is supposed to make a constant connection or just a quick connection and then release. If anyone knows please tell me. I have another question. What to you need to do to the Overdrive Solenoid. I can pull off the only wire that goes to it. If I do this when I take the car out for a drive it will then kick into overdrive but as soon as I shut it off it will not kick into overdrive again. So by pulling off this wire does this like reset the relay and make it kick into overdrive.
