synthetic engine oil discoloration 700 1988

Hello,

I am not running synthetic oil in my 88 740, but I just switched to synthetic in my newer vehicles. To those of you running synthetic oils, is it normal for these lubricants to turn dark after a short period of time? I have never had dark dinosaur oil before, since I change it every 3,000 mi. I am extending my synthetic oil changes to to 7,500 mi or one year, changing the filter at 3750 or 6 mos. I just changed a filter and topped off on one car and the oil was quite dark. I have been told that synthetics will discolor but that color does not mean effectiveness has been reduced. Can anyone confirm this or refute this? Thanks in advance.
