must remove shock and spring for rear trailing arm bushing replacement? 200 1977

Greetings all-

I have all of my part to replace the rear trailing arm bushings. I made the homebrew press and I am ready to go. One last quick question. the Volvo service books say that I have to remove the entire trailing arm to replace the bushings; which would disconnection of the shocks and springs. Is there a short cut, or is this necessary?

Thanks-

Joe H.C.
