87 240 250K AT Overdrive issue Help! 200 1987

Just found the forum (Thanks for being here)

I have an 1987 240, I am the original owner, and my car just turned 250K miles last week. I have a problem with the AT Overdrive that is different than the other posts I have seen.

At Fwy speed (70-80MPH) and after some time of cruising (an hour or more) the fuse that protects the overdrive will "pop" and the car will drop in 3rd gear. Up arrow comes on. Nothing extraordinary at the time, no grade I am climbing, not passing anyone.....Happened last night on I5 300 miles from home for know apparent cause. A real pain to drive the rest of the way at 55mph.

I have replaced the fuse and relay a number of times now. My current situation is I bought a new relay this morning, replaced the fuse, I turn the key, the relay give a quick buzz and the fuse pops. Up arrow still on

The fluid levels are normal, shifts normal... What do I do. Will replacing the selenoid fix this or is it the issue of a short in the shifter.

Thanks,

Philip
