gear shift button collapse - 240 auto w/ OD 200

Hello,

I have a 1985 240GL with automatic and overdrive. When I acquired the car the gear shift lever button was stuck pushed down in the "unlocked" position, making it posible to slide the gear shifter forward and back accidentally.
The PO told me that the assembly had "sprung apart" and he couldn't figure out how to seat the spring properly, I have what appears to be the spring.

Does anyone know how to put this back together? The local u-pull-it junkyard has a matching/working one if I need donor parts, but I have no idea how to disassemble it. Any clues fellow bricksters?

Thanks in advance,
Chris
